When gay couple legally married in one State but live in another, they can get some benefits, but not others.
In some cases gay couple can take legal action to obtain benefits that married couples automatically receive.
For example heterosexual couples can make emergency medical solutions to each other by name. Gay couple can give each other health care power of Attorney that authorizes their partner to take decisions related to medical care on their behalf.
Many argue that this is fundamentally unfair, since it requires gay marriage to take legal action of heterosexual couples do not have to take. However, even heterosexual couples who are not married will , must also take the same steps.
Defense of Marriage Act (House) defines marriage as a legal Union between one man and one woman. The law also stipulates that States are not obliged to recognize same-sex marriage, and prohibits the Federal Government from recognizing same-sex marriage. For example, this means that even if legally married gay couple in New York, (which the legalization of gay marriage), their joint federal tax do not agree to the internal revenue service.

Those who oppose same-sex marriages raise certain objections. They often have their roots in a religious context. Others related to parenting, with opponents arguing that children are best off when a man and a woman. Some follow a "slippery slope" argument. In other words if we legalize marriage between two men, what will happen next? The legalization of marriages between three people? The marriage between humans and animals or an inanimate object?
